There were times when Dr. Fullmer said things that were word-for-word exactly what Mr. Mainieri would say. Stuff like, "Relax, shake it out.", "They'll be throwing babies!", and "You don't need a title to lead." It was almost uncanny how often I would hear/experience things that were exactly how they would've been at Easley.
I'm assuming that band camp is band camp, no matter where you go. It had the same gist, pretty much the same urgency, and an almost identical mindset to what I've known. That's why it was so strange to have the whole opener, with music, by the end of the second day of camp. It would have taken all of camp to do that at Easley! Sure enough, we seemed to just be accomplishing so many things, without it really feeling like more work than I'm used to. We did what would've been a dream at Easley: having the entire show on the field, with music, and it not being a total disaster. And we only worked 8am to 4pm (with lunch), while Easley works 9am to 9pm!
Overall, though, I'd have to say that Timpview Marching Band has a different feel to it. While it is still fun, the band and directors don't make as much fun as Easley would. This doesn't mean it was any less enjoyable, it just didn't feel like as much of a game or a playtime. Everything had a much more professional feel to it. We were there to get work done, which we most certainly did.
In other news, I am officially registered (finally!) and all set to go to school on Tuesday. My schedule is:
[second semester]
- Art Foundations (Joanne Seal) | Missing Class
- Fitness for Life (Tresa Olson) | Geography (Erica Neuffer)
- Japanese 1 (Shauna Palmer)
- Concert Band (David Fullmer)
- Biology (Alan Myrup)
- Geometry/Trig Honors (Bart Christensen)
- Eng 9 Honors (Suzanne Parker)
- Computer Technology (Cynthia Carter) | Digital Photo (Toni Wood)
I am considering taking Jazz Band, but that would be second period, and I would have to do some rearranging. I still have to fill that empty period; I'd like to the ceramics, but I'm sure that it's full to the brim. So I'm thinking about taking the second art class. I want to be in Geography Honors, but the counselor said that it was full. I guess I'll just have to see.
I'm pretty excited, and anxious, for the new school year. It'll certainly be different, maybe you could call it an adventure. I'll have to meet new people and make friends, which I am not very good at. I'll have McKenzie there with me, so we'll just have to help each other out.

Myrup knows my dad, he's a local, and I had Bart but was not super impressed. those are the only teachers i know. Check with the counselor after the first week to see if there are openings in the classes you want.
i cant believe i just wasted my life reading that mile-long blog post. really, learn how to say more in less words!!!
mckenzie, it seems that you leave the same comment on every one of my posts. what, do you want me to copy your style, which i think is choppy and hard to understand?
i will not. this is how i post. i cover the story, and how i feel about something. and i will continue to do it how i like.
I liked it. Just enough. You are a good writer, Taylor.
mom has to support you because you are her daughter. and i do not want you to copy my style, i never said that. i simply think you should learn to paraphrase so that people dont get bored half way through. people dont want to know everything about you. they dont want to know everything about anyone really...
At drum major camp, I learned the history of marching band. I actually had to read a small book on it. I was also given the history of its leadership and even where the phrase throwing babies came from. Unfortunately I don't know much of the details besides a bunch of college band directors incorporated a bunch of it and then the high schools soon followed.
Good post. It didn't have the feeling of length to it like I thought it would. I actually enjoyed it and was shocked when I reached the end because, well, I finished it in one sitting for once.
Clarification: I do normally enjoy your posts. I'm just a terrible reader and Mckenzie talked negatively about it.
