Yay, State!

So our marching band made it to State for the first time in three years. It was a pretty great feeling.
The way it works is that if you make in into the top six in the Upperstate competition, then you get to go to the State competition. At Upperstate we compete with the bands from just the upper half of South Carolina, and the State is with bands from the whole state.
We haven't made it to State for the past three years, so I was pretty skeptical about this year. I didn't have a clue whether we had what it takes, especially with all the marchers who don't give a care. When it came time for the awards ceremony, everyone was tense and nervous. But we made sixth place, barely making it to State. It was a pretty exciting night.
The next week, we went to State. We had met our first goal (to make it to State), and now we had a new one. Our goal was simply to beat Pickens, and hopefully make it into the top six. We met one half of that goal. We beat Pickens and placed 7th overall. We were extremely happy, though, just to be at State and to have placed higher than Pickens.
After the awards, the bands all meshed together and mingled. I high-fived a bunch of strangers in light blue uniforms. It was pretty exciting.
I'm pretty happy to have satisfied our seniors, who have never been to State, and to give them this as their "last year" gift was something special.
It was a wonderful end to a great season, and even though I'm sad that it has ended, I'm happy. Now I get to look forward to next year!

Marmalade! Since band is over, does this mean you'll blog more? I miss you lots and lots. Congrats on achieving both your goals. I know you worked hard and you deserve a rest. How about we celebrate by claying when I come home this weekend!?
